Then h Updated: 7:03 am Walleye stamps support better fishing across Minnesota staff reports pilotnews@pilotindependent.com The Pilot Independent Anglers can support walleye stocking by purchasing $5 walleye stamps that help the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources provide more places to fish for walleye. You can buy a walleye stamp any time of the year, even if you already have a fishing license, said Neil Vanderbosch, DNR fisheries program consultant. All the funds from walleye stamps go toward the cost of purchasing walleye from private fish farms for stocking into lakes. The overall walleye stocking effort ramps up each year in April when fisheries staff collect walleye eggs, fertilize them and transport the eggs to fish hatcheries around Minnesota. The eggs spend two to three weeks incubating before hatching into fry that are soon released two-thirds into lakes and one-third into rearing ponds. The fish in rearing ponds grow into 4- to 6-inch fingerlings that are stocked into lakes artisanal fisheries consultant in the fall. In addition to raising and stocking walleye, the DNR also buys walleye fingerlings from private producers to be stocked into lakes, and walleye stamp sales help pay for these fish. Since 2009, funds from the walleye stamp have purchased over 40,000 pounds of walleye fingerlings that have been stocked in the fall, all over the state. Walleye are stocked in lakes that dont have naturally reproducing walleye populations. Just about anywhere you go in Minnesota, theres a lake fairly close by where you can fish for walleye, Vanderbosch said.

BELFAST, Maine A year after the popular Maine Fare festival was put on ice, its being revived and rebooted by its organizers at the Maine Farmland Trust. This year, instead of a weekend festival on the Belfast waterfront to learn about farming, fishery and local food, the event will be a series of hands-on field trips and workshops held throughout the month of June. Festivals are great, Ellen Sabina, the outreach director for the nonprofit Maine Farmland Trust, said this week. But sometimes the depth can be lost in that context. The rebooted Maine Fare will include a nose-to-tail butchery workshop, a visit to learn about making cider, a history of Maine grain, a farm tour and cheese-making demonstration at a Whitefield creamery and a boat trip down senior fishery consultant the Damariscotta River to visit oyster farms, taste oysters and local beer and learn about harvesting on the river in the past and in the present. Its not the first change in the history of the festival, which was started in Camden in 2006 by a volunteer group of local chefs, food writers and food aficionados. After a two-year hiatus, it was brought to Belfast in 2012 by the Maine Farmland Trust. Over the years, attendees of the festival have feasted on a smorgasbord of local foods and learned about topics such as whether Maine has the capacity to feed itself. Last April, Sabina told the BDN that the festival would not be held in 2016 because putting it on took up too much staff time, energy and work but that it would be reincarnated fisheries consultancy in some fashion. This week, she said shes looking forward to the June Maine Fare events, which should allow participants the chance to really get immersed in each topic. All of the 2017 events will be held in Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties, and organizers said they are interested in moving Maine Fare around the state in coming years to highlight different food in different regions. The June events will wrap up with a collaborative dinner at The Freight Shed in Bath that is prepared by Chef Sam Hayward of Portlands Fore Street restaurant with the help of a team of guest chefs. The food will be locally sourced and delicious, Sabina said, but the meal will be special for another reason, too: The Jeffersonian-style dinner is called Food for Thought and is designed to foster good conversation among attendees. President Thomas Jefferson didnt have a lot of time for European-style formality and place settings at his dinner parties. Instead, he strove to gather interesting, thoughtful guests and seated them pell-mell at a round table, then engineered conversations around a particular topic.

The fact is that the Times and the Clintons have been locked in this solipsistic dance of destruction ever since Jeff Gerth wrote the first botched story about Whitewater during the 1992 presidential campaign. It has defined the newspaper and the family, one to another. Somehow, Being Tough on the Clintons has become one of the ways the Times has tried to prove its journalistic bona fides to the country and the world, while the Clintons seem to veer between hating the paper and wondering why the it doesn't love them. View photos Photo credit: Douglas Burrows / Getty More The dysfunction has gone on so long that hardly anyone remembers how it began-which was the aforementioned Whitewater story and everything that came after it, including some truly odious work by the late William Safire, who beat his little tin drum not only on Whitewater, but on TravelGate, FileGate, and whatever other fantasies he was fed by the Republicans in Congress and by the sieve that was Ken Starr's office. In one 1996 column, Safire memorably called HRC "a congenital fisheries consultancy liar," and in January of 1997, he assured his readers that indictments were imminent on the FileGate story. They were not, but Indictments Are Imminent became a genre of the Times' Clinton coverage unto the most recent campaign, as we shall see. Due to the exalted position the Times holds in American journalism, the extended exercise in bad journalism that was conducted between 1992 and 2000 has had a remarkable shelf-life, as demonstrated by this column from the Washington Post 's Kathleen Parker from January of 20-bloody-16. Questions about Hillary Clinton's honesty did not start with Benghazi or with emails and a private server, but began ages ago with any number of fabricated - or at least exaggerated - stories. Many may remember what New York Times columnist William Safire wrote about Clinton in 1996: "Americans of all political persuasions are coming to the sad realization that our First Lady - a woman of undoubted talents who was a role model for many in her generation - is a congenital liar," he said. "Drip by drip, like Whitewater torture, the case is being made that she is compelled to mislead, and to ensnare her subordinates and friends in a web of deceit." There "they" go again? Safire's concerns at the time - Whitewater, Travelgate, "lost" records - may seem remote and trivial to some, but the drip-drip he identified didn't stop with the White House years. (This is proof that it wasn't just the Times that went crazy over the Clintons. The late Christopher Hitchens fell for every poolroom liar in Arkansas, and, as demonstrated by his most recent effort , Andrew Sullivan is still completely bananas on the subject.) These events were not only "remote and trivial." They were, by and large, complete bullshit, inflated by Republicans and a willing and timid elite political press into a Questions Remain culture of faux-scandal that persisted through the entirety of the 2016 campaign. And it began long before the Times ran seven stories about James Comey's release of his 11th hour letter to Congress on its front page. In July, the Times ran a shoddy story in which the newspaper reported that a criminal investigation into HRC's famous use of a private email server had been launched by the Department of Justice. The story fell apart almost immediately, and then-public editor Margaret Sullivan burned the bones of it in a subsequent column .
